Nantwich CC need just two more points to clinch a second successive league title after both they and rivals Chester drew their penultimate games.

Nantwich went to Alderley edge and were in control throughout the match. Only a defiant last wicket stand by the hosts prevented Nantwich clinching victory and all the points.

Andrew Newton’s side racked up 235-7 in their 55 overs, with good contributions from Jonathon Kettle (30), Glen Batticciotti (38), Rob Howell (34) and Ray Doyle (400.

Sam Hunt smashed a quick fire 41 near the end to post a solid total which Alderley Edge were always going to struggle to reach.

With Jimmy Warrington once again spearheading Nantwich’s attack, taking 6-48, they reduced the hosts to 141-9.

But last pair Jon Usher and Mark Warnes held for the final four overs to force a draw.

Nantwich earned 15 points and Chester Boughton Hall only managed a draw at home to Toft.

It means Nantwich only need two points from their final game next weekend at home to Toft to retain the Cheshire County Premier League title.
