A Nantwich mum and her family have teamed up to make dozens of shoeboxes of gifts to send to needy youngsters around the globe.

Ann Aspinall, her friend Linda and their children and grandchildren made up an amazing 63 boxes as part of Operation Christmas Child.

Now they are encouraging more people in the town to do the same to make Christmas special for children in impoverished countries around the world.

Ann said: “We buy all year in the sales, from car boots sales, fairs,  and this year put together 63 boxes.

“Our children and now our grandchildren have such a lot of things but many children abroad don’t have much at all and we wanted to give them something nice at Christmas”

They are urging schools, churches and groups to together and make a big effort this year and do more boxes.

“We appeal to every one to make this a great year for Samaritans-purse,” Ann added.

“If people get together in groups and get things like stationery, hats, gloves, scarves, toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush necklaces, bracelets, small toys, cars, Frisbee, balls, soap, flannel, hair bobbles and put them in a decorated shoe box, they can make a little child’s Christmas a lovely one.”
