Crewe & Nantwich Labour Party officers dropped by on fellow member Lucy Smart to help celebrate her 90th birthday.

Lucy, from Crewe, was presented with flowers and vouchers for the Lyceum, where she worked as manager cook throughout the 1950s and 60s.

CNLP treasurer Peter Kent said: “Lucy is an amazing person.

“At the age of 90 she is still very active in the local Labour Party and was out canvassing earlier this year, astounding our much younger members by her energy and enthusiasm. She is an example to us all.”

Lucy said: “I was most pleasantly surprised when everyone turned up on my doorstep. I have been active in the Labour Party since I was a child, and have made many friends over the years.

“It was really kind of them to remember me on my 90th birthday.”

Michael Roberts, chairman of Crewe & Nantwich Labour Party (CNLP), said: “Lucy has been a member of the Labour Party for a long time and we brought the best wishes of all the members of the local party on her 90th birthday.”
