Nantwich Town striker Ben Mills was delighted to end his dry spell in front of goal in Boxing Day’s 2-0 victory over Stafford Rangers.

Mills (pictured) notched up his 11th of the campaign with a powerful header 30 minutes into the local derby with Rangers.

The ex-Stafford man had failed to score a league goal since November 1 in a 3-2 victory over Northwich Victoria.

And Mills said he was “as happy as larry” to get back on the score sheet.

He said: “I’m really pleased to finally get number eleven. I’ve been searching for it for a while perhaps too hard.

“I’ve been getting in good areas sometimes but my decision making has let me down or I’ve panicked.”

It’s no secret the big man has been lacking confidence of late but extra work on the training ground with his manager, Jimmy Quinn, has helped him to keep believing.

“We’ve done lots of extra work and I am starting to get my focus back. I am looking to hit the target more and be relaxed in front of goal.”

The 2-0 victory over Stafford has spread much needed confidence among the ranks, according to Mills.

“We’ve built a good platform,” he added.

“As a unit we’ve worked really hard this week and we highlighted the importance of a good start after Christmas before the game so it was pleasing to get that.”

Dabbers boss Quinn added: “I am pleased for Ben. He’s worked really hard, in fact he could have had two or three.

“There will be a game soon where we get five or six, we’ve worked the ball really well and got good crosses into the box which when you have players like Ben and Lenny (Michael Lennon) creates lots of chances.

“Overall I’m delighted with the players’ attitude as local derbies can always be potential banana skins.”

The Dabbers face another local derby on Monday when they travel to face Chester.
