Budding dancers in Nantwich could soon be cutting a rug in Cheshire’s very own Strictly Come Dancing competition.

Nantwich-based Dancebasics Dance School has teamed up with St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice to find ballroom stars in the area.

They have devised a “Strictly Learn to Dance” fundraising event which will see couples learn in special sessions before a grand final held at Nantwich Civic Hall in May.

Between 10 and 12 couples will be chosen and transformed into confident dancers by the school, run by professional dancer Mark Birchenhough and his partner Shannah.

From mid January, Dancebasics will run regular tuition of 45 minutes per week, to coach all the participants.

The event will culminate in a fun Grand Final show at the Civic Hall on May 13, in which a panel of judges will watch the couples dance and pick an overall winner.

Participants will be asked to register and commit to raise sponsorship donations of at least £300 for the Winsford-based hospice.

Tickets for the Grand Final will also be on sale to raise money for the hospice, which cares for sufferers of cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
