A South Cheshire College student is gearing up for the fight of his life to raise cash for a good cause.

Father-of-two Phil Jones is hoping to pack a punch when he steps into a boxing ring for charity at Gregory’s nightclub in Nantwich.

The 32-year-old, who plays American football for Crewe Railroaders, has never boxed but wanted to raise cash for Sands – the stillborn and neonatal death charity.

Funkin Fitness is organising the White Collar Boxing Event, which will feature up to 15 fights. Phil will be stepping into the ring for three two minute rounds.

Phil, part way through a Foundation Degree in Enterprise Computing, is enduring 12 weeks of training at Fitness First in Crewe to prepare.

He is aiming to raise loads of cash and has set up a fundraising page online, www.justgiving.com/Phillip-Jones3

People can also donate £1 by texting FOKA79 to 70070 and there will be a collection bucket in the college’s reception.

Phil, of Crewe, said: “I’ve never done anything like this before but I heard about the boxing event through Fitness First and thought I would give it a go.

“I’ve already notched up £150 but I want to raise lots more cash before the night. As a father myself, I want to try and help people who are left devastated by the loss of a child.”

Tickets are now on sale for the boxing night priced at £15 and rise to £20 after March 1.

The fight takes place on Saturday March 31, from 6pm-10pm.
