Two members of Leighton Hospital’s Stoma Support Group donated £660 to boost care available for bowel cancer patients.

Tom and Margaret Butler, who attend the group’s meetings each month at the hospital’s Macmillan Cancer Support and Information Centre, have now raised more than £7,000 for the trust.

The latest amount was raised at a coffee morning, which also included a raffle and a variety of stalls.

Tom said: “Our members are current and former patients, and have been through treatment for various different aspects of bowel cancer.

“We are therefore in a good position to try and help similar patients through their treatment.

“By raising these funds in addition to the group’s donations, we are able to help the Trust in purchasing additional equipment to help current and future bowel cancer patients.”

Heather Hughes, colorectal nurse at Leighton, said: “Tom and Margaret, as well as the rest of the Stoma Group, have done a fantastic job of fundraising for us over the past few years, and it really does make a difference in helping to further improve the quality of care that we offer our patients.”
