The Nantwich Jazz, Blues and Music Festival is expanding with a family carnival theme on Easter Monday after securing more backers.

Now its 16th year, the festival attracts thousands of music-lovers to the town from across the UK.

The upcoming event runs over the Easter weekend from Thursday April 5 to Monday April 9.

Now organisers are are going one step further by delivering a full line-up of entertainment on the Monday.

Festival organiser Phillip Martin said: “As the Monday has always been the traditionally quieter day, we have put on a full day’s entertainment for all the family.

“This year’s event on the Monday will be the most expensive free outdoor event the festival has ever staged.

“We were offered a matching fund grant from DEFRA to help events go forward in the future years.”

Organisers have attracted new sponsors including drinks brands and local company CTC Physiotherapy, based in Nantwich.

“Sponsorship is so important, especially as Cheshire East has pulled out of the ‘Saturday on the Square’, which has always been their event, but promoted by us,” Phillip added.

“We are very pleased Nantwich Town Council has given us a grant towards the Saturday event which will go ahead as normal.”

On Easter Monday, Red Shift Radio will be entertaining children from 10.30am with Easter egg hunts, balloon modelling, street entertainers, local children’s, choirs and theatre clubs.

At 12.30pm Katy Shotter (pictured, right) will be on the stage in the square, after recently supporting Beyonce on her UK Tour.

Then one of Europe’s leading tribute bands The Cavern Beatles (main pic) will be onstage.

After the show, bars and pubs are putting on more than 30 shows, for which people only need a wrist band for entrance. Children under 14 are free if accompanied by an adult.

Early bird tickets and wristbands are now available from www.nantwichjazz.com or call the box office on 01270 625283. Tickets are also available from Nantwich Civic Hall. Full details of the festival programme will be announced shortly.
