parking ticket machine (By Simon Clayson)

All council car parking in Nantwich will be free on the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holidays.

Cheshire East Council has decided to suspend car parking charges on all its carparks in Nantwich and other towns.

The gesture is designed to encourage more people to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the town centre.

All Cheshire East Council’s car parks will be free for users from 8am on Monday June 4, to 8am on Wednesday, June 6.

Cllr Rod Menlove, Cabinet member with responsibility for environmental services, said: “Cheshire East Council has taken this decision to ensure that party-goers can concentrate on enjoying themselves for the whole celebration, rather than worrying if their ticket has expired.

“We want people to enjoy themselves as much as possible during this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
