Gary Poole, Labour candidate

Prison governor Gary Poole is bidding to become Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Crewe & Nantwich.

Mr Poole, born in Nantwich, also lived in Crewe’s West End when he worked at the CWS Tea & Coffee Centre on Weston Road.

He has been a member of the Prison Service and has served at HMP Manchester, Risley, Wandsworth and Holloway.

He is currently regional operations manager for the service in London.

Mr Poole said: “People are fed up with the old politics and are very angry about the way the current system has let them down.

“I represent a new sort of candidate, one who has worked hard to build a career in the real world and one who understands the pain and frustration felt by so many people in this constituency.

“As a truly local candidate I can bring a unique understanding to the issues facing hard working local families.

“I am someone who was born here, someone who has lived, worked and played here and so I have a real understanding of the current anxieties facing working people throughout Crewe & Nantwich.

“As someone who has worked in some of Britain’s toughest prisons I also have real experience of how crime affects the wider community and I pledge to be a true champion to all those in this area who’s lives are blighted by crime and anti-social behaviour.

“No one can feel more honour at the prospect of representing this constituency in Parliament and because of this I will work tirelessly to show local people that I am on their side.”

If he’s standing for Labour then he will follow the party line, i.e. old politics, not new. Otherwise Labour won’t allow him to stand under their flag. Who does he think he is kidding? Perhaps he’s just naive.

    • How rude and unnecessary of you, Brangane. Politics should be more positive. Sounds like a good candidate. Good luck to him!

I’m sorry that you thought I was being rude. I thought I was being realistic. Yes, we could do with more positives in politics but I don’t believe they will come from Labour and Tory; more of the same is most likely. If this guy stood as an Independent, I would be more inclined to believe him but, cynically, he knows as we all do, that he won’t get elected as an Independent.
