Nantwich Riverside info panel unveiled by Weaver Primary pupils, Doug Butterill, and Cllr John Lewis

New signs are being erected along Nantwich Riverside to help visitors find out more about the town’s landscape and history.

The seven double-sided signs are the result of a project led by Nantwich Civic Society.

The society worked with several local organisations to realise the project, with funding provided by Nantwich Town Council.

And Nantwich-based community interest company Greenspaces South Cheshire CIC put the large information panels together along the length of the Riverside area from Beam Bridge to the south of Nantwich Lake.

The panels, produced by the Sign Studio in Crewe, are double-sided with the front face providing information about landscape, wildlife and history and the other side showing mapping and walking/cycling routes.

The first was installed by local volunteers at Coed Wen Community Woodland and was unveiled by town councillor John Lewis and chairman of Nantwich in Bloom, Doug Butterill.

They were joined by pupils from Weaver Primary School who have planted native trees, shrubs and wildflower meadows.

Jeff Stubbs, chairman of Nantwich Civic Society, said: “This has been an excellent example of local partnership working backed by Nantwich Town Council.

“I would like to thank all the organisations and individuals who have contributed towards the project and Greenspaces South Cheshire for bringing it all together.

“We are very fortunate to have such an interesting area of public open space by the River Weaver and I am pleased we have been able to reveal some of its treasures for all to enjoy.”

The partnership included contributions from Riverside Concern (Nantwich), Nantwich Angling Society, Cheshire Wildlife Trust volunteers, Nantwich Museum, Nantwich Mill Hydro generation, the local community and Greenspaces South Cheshire CIC.

The remaining six panels are to be installed soon.
