The star of BBC’s “Turn Back Time, The High Street” is special guest at a Bridgemere WI event in Nantwich.

People are invited to listen to Simon Grant-Jones at the talk at Bridgemere Primary School this Thursday February 21.

As well as starring in the TV series, Simon is the UK National Champion Blacksmith.

He specialises in bespoke traditionally forged metalwork, and is a Licentiate and Associate of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths of London. He was the UK National Champion Blacksmith for 2010 and 2012.

He is a keen supporter of rural trades and traditions, which will be a key part of this talk organised by the Bridgemere WI group.

In 2012, Simon appeared in “The Blacksmith’s Tale” – a programme made as part of the BBC4’s “hand made in Britain” series.

Five families were transported back in time and made to live and trade through six eras from the 1890s to the 1970s.

The town of Shepton Mallet in Somerset was turned into a film set for three months where the families lived and worked as their counterparts would have done.

Simon will talk his audience through the trials and tribulations of the life of a Blacksmith 100 years ago.

For more details about the talk, which starts at 7.30pm, contact Pat Cornes of Bridgemere WI on 01270 520249.
