Brine Leas School, Nantwich

A developer wants to build 31 new homes on land off Audlem Road at the back of Brine Leas School in Nantwich.

Initial proposals have been sent to Nantwich Town Council to ask for their views on the plans.

The plans, put forward by Lancashire-based DGL Associates acting on behalf of the unnamed developer, were discussed at a Nantwich Town Council meeting last night (March 11).

It’s believed the idea includes knocking down a property on the busy Audlem Road to create a new access route into the development.

Nantwich Town Council clerk Ian Hope told the meeting: “They are proposing to knock down 144 Audlem Road to provide access and develop the land at the rear which backs on to Brine Leas playing fields.”

No planning application has been submitted at this stage, with proposals mooted for initial consultation.

Nantwich Mayor Cllr Graham Fenton said: “It needs to be highlighted that this is opposite the methodist church on Audlem Road and that cars park on both sides of the main road at that point.”

Pat Cullen, of Protect Stapeley campaign group, said residents would be opposed to further development.

“This is yet another example of a speculative, unplanned development that is not included in the Local Plan.

“The Local Plan specifies the number of houses required in Nantwich until 2030 and this requirement is more than catered for by the planned developments that are included in the Local Plan.

“This development is not part of that requirement. I’m sure local residents will be appalled by this proposal and will strongly oppose it. I will offer the considerable expertise of the Protect Stapeley group to residents who wish to oppose this development.”

    We have recently checked the tree report relating to the 144 Audlem Road proposed housing development for 40 houses and noticed there were no mature trees mentioned, when we moved from this property in January 2013 there was a very large, mature beautiful tree on the rear boundary approximately in the middle of the rear boundary. Also an apple tree to the rear lefthandside, corkscrew willow on the middle right handside boundary. Is this a case of the builders disposing of problems before seeking reports , the tree report is dated February 2013?

    Having read through the (remarkably similar) comments objecting to this application on Cheshire East’s planning website, I see that one of the main points everybody makes is to cite the fact that there are plans for 1000 (yes, one thousand) new houses on land between Waterlode and Reaseheath College, as if these plans are somehow more acceptable than (and therefore negate)the Audlem Road proposal for all of 30 houses.
    I sincerely hope that if and when the Reaseheath proposal becomes an application, all those people who have objected so violently to Audlem Road are equally vehemently opposed to NW Nantwich. Otherwise I will be tempted to think that the ‘threats to our lovely town’ are only threats when they are ‘in my backyard’.

    The owners of 144 Audlem Road had no knowledge of the plans to build houses. We still live locally and an output of 50/60 cars onto the road is unbelivable, we opposed the stapley development and will oppose this too. Did the estate agent know ??? Did the purchaser know (Richard Chamberlain) – we didn’t

    As the Council sees, in bonus terms, only fields of gold.

    Who are they building these houses for?
    The town is full, we don’t need any more,
    If houses are needed in areas elsewhere,
    Then let them go and build them there.

  6. In reply to gskf, a planning application has not been submitted yet so how do you figure you can’t see any reason to oppose these plans? You cannot make a judgement or offer opinion on something that hasn’t even been submitted!

    Unless, of course, you are the developer or the owner of 144 Audlem Road and have inside knowledge…

  7. I can’t see any reason to oppose these plans. Audlem Road is no busier than London Road and Wright Lodge/Court opening onto that contains more dwellings than this. Cars parked on the road is not a valid reason for opposing development, the road is owned by CEC not the residents, and mitigating measures will be employed.

      The reason to oppose this plan is because this development is not planned! The Local Plan, which we’ve all had the opportunity to contribute to, sets out plans for the future of Nantwich. Unplanned developments like this could eventually spoil our town.
