Coach Andy Brown praised the support that helped Crewe & Nantwich 1sts to an opening 29-21 league win against Stafford.

And he is calling for similar backing as the Vagrants side aim for promotion to Midlands West 1 – its highest level ever.

Andy said: “Many thanks for your fantastic support when we  played Stafford, it really made a difference.

“This season, our target is promotion and the players are working hard to that end. The ‘X’ factor in our bid to get promoted is the supporters!

“When we get vocal support behind the team, it spurs the players on to greater heights.

“So, please if you can travel to our away games and support the 1st XV in this massive effort to get promotion to Midlands West 1, the highest standard of rugby ever played by a Crewe and Nantwich team, please do so.”

Midlands West 1 league is immediately below National League rugby, something Crewe and Nantwich have never experienced.

“Now that would be a big prize to target next season for both players and supporters alike,” Andy added.

Crewe & Nantwich travel to face Tamworth tomorrow (September 21), kick off at 3pm, looking for a repeat performance of the Stafford match.

They started the game in the style that is becoming their trade mark, playing exciting and dynamic rugby at pace which causes opposition all sorts of problems.

No 8 Kirk Robinson scored two early tries powering over the line through several defenders in the 15th and 29th minute.

Stafford replied with two penalties but a fine handling movement involving several players saw Joe Gammage score in the corner and finally wing Adam Chalklin achieved the bonus point with the fourth try.

Prop forward James Guy was sin-binned in the second period and hooker Eli Woodward departed through injury.

Stafford dominated and scored three tries, but Crewe regained composure and scored a final converted try Josh ‘Agro’ Collins under the posts.
