An award-winning country inn near Nantwich is celebrating new accolades from top national guides and publications.

The Yew Tree Inn at Spurstow, Bunbury, has been voted Cheshire’s Dining Pub of the Year by the prestigious Good Pub Guide 2014.

It comes after the pub scooped the “North West’s Best Freehouse 2013” in the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013, organized by industry magazine the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.

And the historic inn is also now included in the latest major pub and restaurant guides including Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) Good Beer Guide 2014.

The 19th century built inn closed in 2007, but was revamped and opened by publicans Jon and Lindsay Cox in 2010.

Since then, more than 350 beers have appeared on the six hand pull bar, including craft brewers such as Shropshire’s Stonehouse, Moorhouse’s of Lancashire, Acorn and Ossett from Yorkshire, and local Cheshire breweries.

The Good Pub Guide awards the Yew Tree stars for the outstanding food, exceptional beer quality, wine choice and “plenty of individuality, smashing food and drinks and a bouncy atmosphere”.

Jon Cox said: “This has been a terrific year. We are very proud to receive these awards and top national guides recommendations. We have to say a big thank you to all our team and to our loyal customers.

“It is wonderful to be known for excellent pub food, but it is also crucial that we retain a local pub atmosphere – offering a warm welcome for the regulars popping in for a pint or two.”

Morning Advertiser editor Rob Willock said: “The emphasis has been on embracing the local community, with an excellent offer of food and drink to suit its mixed clientele. It supports local farmers and producers.”

Earlier this year The Yew Tree also claimed bronze in the Visit England Awards for Excellence 2013 – “Tourism Pub of the Year”.

Other awards include: Taste Northwest – “Highest Quality Assured” Award; Chester Food & Drink Awards 2013 – “Best Use of Local Produce”; Marketing Cheshire Awards 2012 – “Tourism Pub of the Year”.
