Nantwich Town were narrowly beaten by FA Cup heroes Macclesfield Town in their Cheshire Senior Cup clash.

The Dabbers lost 2-1 at Moss Rose, despite Steve Foster’s strike giving them a 1-0 half-time lead.

Macclesfield were on a high after their amazing FA Cup performance at the weekend when they held Championship side Sheffield Wednesday to a 1-1 draw.

But Nantwich, who beat Macclesfield on the way to lifting the Cheshire Cup in 2012, caught them on the hop after just five minutes in their clash last night (January 8)

Foster (pictured) cashed in to fire the Dabbers ahead in front of just 139 supporters.

Nantwich continued to create chances but the hosts, who included former Crewe Alex favourite Efe Sodje, came back into the game after the break.

And a Danny Rowe broke Dabbers’ resistance. He levelled on 72 minutes, and then seven minutes from time netted the winner.

Meanwhile, Nantwich Town Ladies are on the look-out for new players.

The team trains every Wednesday evening on the 3G pitch at the Weaver Stadium and, in its first season, is playing friendly matches against similar opposition.

Women of any ability are invited to come along to the sessions which start again tonight (January 8) at 7.30pm.
