Reggie app launch at Brine Leas - Graham Shapiro, Edward Timpson and Lee McQueen

An app launched by a Nantwich firm to help teachers register their pupils, has won a prestigious MobileWebAward.

The “Reggie” was awarded “Outstanding Mobile App” and now sits alongside other winners such as Google, Orange, E! Online, Volkswagen and Gucci.

The app was designed by Nantwich-based GSD Communications in Welsh Row and piloted by Brine Leas School.

A year on, it has proved a big success in helping staff register their students on the go using an iphone, ipad or ipod.

Graham Shapiro, head of GSD Communications, said: “Reggie App is secure, portable attendance checking – online or offline.

“Keeping student data secure is a top priority for all schools. That’s why Reggie has been designed to meet tough Government standards of online security.”

Judged by a panel of industry experts, the Web Marketing Association awards are one of a select few celebrating state-of-the-art mobile design.

Reggie helpd PE teachers out on the field as a portrait shot of each student included on the register sits alongside their name.

This means teachers can quickly identify missing children. This feature is also ideal for supply teachers frequently duped at registration by students answering on behalf of their absent friends.

Paul Whitehead, a technology teacher at Brine Leas School, said: “Reducing the time teachers have to spend taking the register means more time for teaching.

“In an era when everyone is under pressure to deliver great results, that’s good news not just for students, but teachers too.

“The Reggie app is incredibly quick and easy to use and takes full advantage of smartphone simplicity to free up hours of extra contact time over the school year.

“The fact Reggie is available for both Apple and Android devices is the icing on the cake.”

The Reggie app can be downloaded from the AppleStore and Google Play.
