Nantwich Museum Trust has welcomed a new chairman to the organisation.

Nick Dyer, 65, from Willaston, takes over the reins of the Pillory Street venue from outgoing chair Robert Stones.

Mr Stones, a managing partner at Peter Wilson Fine Art Auctioneers in Nantwich, stood down from the position after 11 years.

Mr Dyer said: “I am thrilled at this opportunity to be involved with my local museum and especially looking forward to the annual commemoration of the famous Battle of Nantwich.”

Mr Stones added: “They have been 11 fantastic years and I have enjoyed every minute.

“But I now feel it is time to hand over to someone who can look at the future and development of the museum with a fresh pair of eyes.”

Mr Dyer, who was a senior manager in social care services for older people in Cheshire and the North West, praised his predecessor.

“We now have 60 volunteers and more than 150 members who work hard for the museum and enjoy its events, exhibitions and the collection that remind us of our heritage.

“Every year our staff work with teachers helping children to learn about the history of the town.

“They are currently working with Nantwich residents who have dementia, using the museum’s collection to remind them of their past experiences.

“I am really looking forward to working with volunteers and staff to build on this success.”

The museum is free of charge to visitors and has a range of artefacts of local interest, including a medieval gold Hurleston brooch.

The current exhibition in the Millennium Gallery features photographs taken by Nantwich Camera Club members and later this year a major exhibition will recall the impact on Nantwich of the First World War.
