Nantwich Town boss Danny Johnson has praised the Dabbers fans for their support during their 5-1 defeat at Chorley FC.

Goals from Max Cartwright, Josh Hine, James Dean (2), and an own goal by Earl Davies condemned Nantwich to a heavy defeat.

Player assistant-manager Davies did score at the right end but it was of little consolation.

The result leaves Nantwich 13th in the league table and with little to play for.

But after the game, Johnson was quick to praise the travelling Nantwich faithful.

He said: “Even at 5-1 down they kept singing. They were absolutely magnificent – the supporters are different class.

“When we were 5-1 down they are still singing and chanting for the lads.

“They are just great people as well. I know most of them quite well now and they were magnificent again today, they have stood there chanting at the lads, banging the drum.

“I know I need to look at myself and I’ve got to look at what I can do to bring some success for them and I am confident that I will.

“I’ve got four or five players lined up for the summer and with some good additions they can move us forward.”

The game was heading into the break at 1-1 when Chorley were awarded a penalty to give them a half-time lead.

Johnson said the Dabbers were on top for the first 25 minutes of the game, but came unstuck after some mishaps in defence.

“Fair play to Chorley – they were magnificent today for the start of the game and the second half.

“They deserved the three points.”

And he added it could have been  worse if it had not been for goalkeeper Steve James who made a number of fine saves.

“He has done great on loan from Preston North End and he has done well.

“He is only a young lad and is learning and he hasn’t made any mistakes today.”
