A51 Bypass crash

A cyclist was seriously injured after an accident outside a school in Nantwich.

The 41-year-old man, who has not been named, was injured outside Brine Leas School on Audlem Road.

Police had to close the road for a short time, and the air ambulance helicopter was called to the scene, landing at the back of Brine Leas School.

One witness who contacted Nantwichnews said she saw the cyclist and the car collide at the entrance to the school.

The cyclist was taken to Leighton Hospital by land ambulance.

Police reopened the road shortly after the accident which happened at around 12.40pm today. They confirmed the car was being driven by a man.

PC Nicola Rimmer, of Cheshire Police, said: “The cyclist is suffering from suspected serious injuries but not sure as to the extent of those at the moment.

“The road was closed for a short time. No arrests have been made and further inquiries are being made. We have a number of witnesses who saw the incident.”

Any witnesses are urged to contact Cheshire Police on the non emergency 101 number, quoting incident number 363.

It’s the latest accident involving a cyclist on the roads around Nantwich.

Just four months ago, Wistaston man Stewart Gandy died after a collision between his bike and lorry on the A530 between Nantwich and Whitchurch.
