Rugby playing brothers from Nantwich are celebrating double success – after being picked for England!

Ben and Tom Curry, who play for the U16s for Crewe & Nantwich RUFC, were selected to play for England U16s after another great club season.

The duo impressed England selectors after playing for a North of England team in the week-long Wellington College International Festival against U16 teams from the Midlands, London & South East and the South West, Wales, Scotland, France and Italy.

One hundred players from the four English regions were told whether they had made the four England squads.

Tom was selected for England U16s and played against Scotland U16s and Wales U16s, winning both matches.

Ben was selected for England U16 Saxons and played Italy U17s, again winning.

A spokesman for Crewe & Nantwich RUFC said: “The boys have been playing for us since 2003.

“Ben has played all his junior rugby as a number 6, but the England management sees him as a number 7 like his brother.

“Given the fact he has only played one game at number 7, it’s a great achievement to make the Saxons squad.

“To cap off a fantastic season for the lads, Tom was then awarded the England U16s Frank Harden Award for England’s Player of the season.

“Congratulations again to Ben, Tom and their family. It’s a great achievement.”

After their International duties, the twins were back representing Crewe & Nantwich U16s in the Cheshire Plate Final against Chester on Sunday (May 4).
