Millfields Primary School celebrate Ofsted praise

Millfields Primary and Nursery choir in Nantwich will sing a medley of 60s hits as part of celebrations to mark the school’s 50th birthday.

The school, on Marsh Lane, first opened in January 1964 but the official opening took place later that year.

And acting Deputy Head, Samantha Williams, is organising a day-long celebration on June 20.

Ms Williams put out an appeal for former teachers, pupils and support staff to get in touch to help them celebrate the half-century.

And she says she’s been amazed by the response!

“We’re absolutely delighted by the number of people who have got in touch.

“Our old headteacher Geoff Evans is coming to our celebrations along with dozens of other people including former catering staff, school crossing patrols, teachers, pupils, admin staff and also friends and family of people who worked here.”

The school is planning a special assembly in the morning followed by the performance of songs from the 1960s and 1970s in the afternoon.

There will also be a display of photographs and memorabilia including school reports, artwork and trophies, guided tours of the school, a timeline showing highlights in Millfield’s history, a balloon race – and all the current pupils will receive a commemorative medal.

Celebrations will continue the following day (Saturday June 21) from 11am until 3pm with the school’s 50th Anniversary Summer Fair.

There will be a rodeo bull, cake stall, games, craft stall, bouncy castle and entertainment by Nantwich Young Voices. Entrance is free and all are welcome.

Millfields Primary and Nursery first opened its doors with just 38 pupils.

It now has 248 children, aged three to 11, and is looking forward to its next 50 years.
