Nantwich sisters tackle “30km for 30 years” in memory of tragic brother

Two Nantwich sisters are stepping out on a 30km run – in honour of their brother who died of blood cancer.

Emma and Tricia Boffey are staging their “30k for 30 years” on the day brother Will would have celebrated his 30th birthday.

Former Brine Leas School student Will died in 2007 aged just 22, after a two-year battle against myeloid leukaemia.

Will was studying at Nottingham Trent University and had just finished a placement at Bentley Motors in Crewe when he was diagnosed with the illness.

He was a popular member of the Nantwich Young Farmers Club, and helped his dad out on the family farm.

And sisters Emma and Tricia (pictured, above) have chosen his birthday on July 19 to set out on their challenge.

Emma, 27, will start the run from Nantwich Swimming Pool, and run past various places linked with Will, such as the Barony, Brine Leas School, Wrenbury Football Club and Audlem Primary School.

Will (pictured, right and below) was a past BLS pupil and was a keen footballer in the Ladsandads League.

Former Reaseheath College student Tricia, 24, who works at Food Tec UK in Crewe, will join Emma for the last 10km finishing up at their family home in Burleydam.

Emma, who now lives and works in Edinburgh for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said: “It will be an emotional but an amazing run full of many memories of our amazing brother.

“We hope to raise as much as we can for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, as we don’t want anyone else to lose a much loved brother like we did to blood cancer.”

Cathy Gilman, chief executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said: “Every penny raised helps us in our mission to beat blood cancer, by stopping people from dying and making patients’ lives better.

“We wish Emma and Tricia the very best of luck and hope the event goes well.”

After the run, the sisters have organised a celebratory party at Audlem Public Hall from 7pm.

“Our brother loved a party and he would have definitely celebrated his 30th birthday!” added Emma.
