Mayor Christine Farrrall presents the cheque to Paul Simpson and Julie Lewis

Nantwich Town Council has awarded a grant of more than £13,000 to The Cat Community Radio.

The cash will help the Nantwich-based station complete the final preparations before going live on FM transmission.

It will fund the installation of a new FM transmitter in readiness for their launch onto the airwaves.

Paul Simpson, technical director for The Cat Community Radio, said: “Since we received notification of the licence award from OFCOM in February, we’ve been making steady headway in getting our funding, advertising and sponsorship building up in the local area, and attracting new members.

“We know that by going FM we will be offering wider support and access to local community groups and events than ever before when we were an internet station.

“We are a not-for-profit self-funding organisation, and like many groups and societies in the area, we look to fund in whatever way possible.

“We would like to thank Nantwich Town Council wholeheartedly for the funding of the FM transmission equipment which is the vital link in providing a radio service.

“We now look forward to our transmission date and frequency coming through from OFCOM as they complete their engineering work, and then we really will be in business to give voice to the community in a way that we have waited so long for.”

Nantwich Mayor Cllr Christine Farrall said: “We are very pleased and delighted to support “The Cat” with achieving this FM licence.

“I know you have spent a lot of time on it and it’s great to have a local radio station, our local radio station in Nantwich.”

Cllr Arthur Moran has been supporting the Cat Community radio bid for grant funding.

He said: “This is great news for “The Cat” and also great news for Nantwich to get our very own local radio station.

“There are exciting times ahead.”
