Crewe & Nantwich RUFC scrum - under 16s win Cheshire Shield, beat Walsall

Crewe & Nantwich RUFC will kick off another long campaign this weekend with a friendly away at Wilmslow.

Crewe, who play at Vagrants in Willaston, will be fielding a mix of 1st and 2nd team players in the clash with the North West 1 club on Saturday (August 2).

Director of rugby Andy Brown said: “It will provide an opportunity for players challenging for 1st team places, to be seen by head coach, Andy Dudley.

“The guys are training hard and there is a lot of competition for places.

“The boys will be pleased to have your support in what should be an interesting fixture.”

Crewe gained promotion at the end of last season, and will be playing at their highest ever level in 2014-15 in Midlands West 1 – , just one tier below the national leagues.

“Crewe were inundated with requests for friendly games this season,” added Brown.

“Who would have thought, a few years ago, that we would be playing friendlies against famous clubs the like of Wilmslow and Broughton Park?

“It shows how far the club has progressed in the last few seasons.”

Crewe & Nantwich’s next pre-season friendly is away at Broughton Park on August 16.
