Nantwich Town manager Danny Johnson is raring to go as the new Evo-Stik Premier League season kicks off, writes Richard Scott.

The Dabbers travel to Buxton FC on the opening day this Saturday and Johnson believes his side have what it takes to start the campaign with a good victory.

He said: “I am looking forward to starting at Buxton away.

“Pre-season is a necessary evil and you have got to just do it to get yourself ready and get yourself going.

“But we are really looking forward to the new season now.

“If we can manage the expectation, we have a decent squad. We have no world beaters, but we have a bit of togetherness in there.

“That is something we are going to be talking to the lads about in training – to make sure the togetherness and spirit is there.

“That will give you 25 points a season alone.”

Johnson believes no one can predict anything in the league and he is confident his side have what it takes to be up at the top come the end of the season.

“I think every manager in the Evo-Stik Premier Division will be saying that, because that is where they want to be.

“Who knows who is going to be at the top, who knows FC United will be at the top?

“Who thought last year it would be Chorley, AFC Fylde and Ashton who would be up there?

“So who knows what is going to happen – it’s a long old season.

“You need a bit of luck. You just need a few things to go your way, and you need luck with injuries and with key decision at key times in games.

“But we will take every game as it comes. It’s the old cliché but it is the best way to do it.

“And if we can get off to a good start at Buxton, and win the 46 games out of 46, I would imagine we would win the league!”

Nantwich have missed key players during pre-season due to holidays and other commitments.

Now Johnson believes he will have a fully fit squad to choose from this Saturday (August 16), kick off 3pm.
