Crewe & Nantwich RUFC are calling for big support when they welcome local rivals Whitchurch to the Vagrants.

It will be Crewe’s first home game in Midlands 1 West – the highest ever league level the club has competed at.

Crewe kicked off the season with a narrow defeat away at Walsall on Saturday, going down 33-26.

This Saturday (September 13), the 1st team welcome Whitchurch with a 3pm kick off.

Crewe & Nantwich director of rugby Andy Brown (pictured) said: “This is the first time the two clubs have played each other for 20 years at 1st XV level and it will be massive derby game.

“Whitchurch rapidly progressed once the leagues were introduced to National League level, hence why we have not played them for many years.

“But a Whitchurch player told me that we will need to add an extra digit to the scoreboard for the away team as two digits won’t be enough on Saturday!

“He said it in jest but it shows what this game means to the players.

“There will be mass support travelling from Whitchurch for a cracker of a game.

“So please come down as we want to make sure we have a big crowd too supporting Crewe. We will guarantee you a great afternoon’s sport.”

While Crewe lost at the weekend, Whitchurch began the season well by thumping Berkswell and Balsall 52-14 at home.

Crewe & Nantwich 2nd team began well, winning 43-17 at home to Sefton.

The 3rds also started with a win, narrowly edging out Macclesfield 4th team 15-10, and the 4ths travelled to Oswestry and beat their third team 41-38.
