Iain Howard, new Nantwich Town signing

New Nantwich Town midfielder Iain Howard believes joining the Dabbers from rivals Witton Albion was “a no brainer”.

Howard has been reunited with former boss Danny Johnson who he played for at Ashton United, before leaving to join Chester.

But he could not wait to join back up with Johnson after years apart.

He said: “It was an obvious choice for me to come to Nantwich.

“Danny has looked after me throughout my career and he offered me the opportunity to come to the Weaver Stadium.

“Also to join a good team and a good set up was was a no brainer – I jumped at the chance.”

Howard also knows the style of Johnson well.

Howard says: “He has got good man management skills and he gets everyone working hard for him.

“He also looks after you. He puts an arm around you when you need him to, and he can give you a telling off when you need it.”

Howard is hoping his experience at Chester FC, where he won the Evo-Stik Division 1 North, Evo-Stik Premier Division, and Conference North, can be used to Nantwich’s advantage.

“That is what I am looking to do. I have come here with a good squad of players, I just want to be a part of it and help them progress.

“That is the kind of the thing that Danny pushed towards and what sold it to me.”

Howard was named Man of the Match on his debut in the 3-1 victory at home to Matlock on Saturday.

And Johnson said: “There was some nice, free flowing football at times, in the way we controlled lots of the game in periods.

“If I am hyper-critical, then I thought we should have scored more goals.

“We had some good opportunities and we should have taken them against other oppositions, such as Halesowen, but we didn’t and it cost us.

“I was thinking the same was going to happen again, but we got the second and the third and it killed the game off.

“But we need to be more clinical in the last third of the pitch.”
