Mark Winslade

Nantwich Town were knocked out of the Doodson Sports Cup 3-2 at home to Stourbridge, writes Richard Scott.

Second half goals within a minute each other from Mark Winslade and William Richards drew the Dabbers level after George Bowerman and Kristian Ramsey-Dixon had given the visitors the lead.

But with 10 minutes to go, Bowerman tapped in to put the Glassboys into the next round of the cup.

Nantwich boss Danny Johnson handed John Disney a debut at right back as he came in for Kyle Harrop, who dropped down to the bench, while Winslade (pictured) was in the starting 11 ahead of Max Harrop who wasn’t in the 16.

The Dabbers could not have got off to a worse start when Stourbridge took the lead in the second minute of the game.

A misjudged kick from Dave Stevenson fell to Bowerman who opened the scoring off the post.

Nantwich tried to press for an equalizer, but found Glassboys keeper Dominic Hill in the way.

And on nine minutes the visitors were 2-0 up when a long ball found Kristian Ramsey-Dixon who managed slot past Stevenson.

On 22 minutes Aaron Burns could have pulled one back when his shot was heading towards goal but an on-rushing defender was able to clear off the line.

Nantwich were forced to make a change on 27 minutes when skipper Mark Jones picked up an ankle injury.

He was replaced by Kyle Blake. Jones could be out of action for four weeks.

Burns had a header which was cleared off the line by Jean Kalenda.

Winslade hit the inside of the post as he turned and shot from just inside the area, then moments later the former Vauxhall Motors and AFC Fylde forward hit a shot just over.

Four minutes after the interval the Dabbers pulled one back when Winslade let fly and it left the keeper rooted to the spot as the ball hit the top corner.

And a minute later Nantwich were level when a cross from the left was diverted into the goal by Will Richards past a helpless keeper.

Kosylo almost gave Dabbers the lead with a shot which thundered off the bar.

Burns went close when he was found by Kosylo, but the striker’s shot grazed the bar .

With 17 minutes to go Harry Clayton was brought on in place of Burns, who worryingly limped off the pitch.

And the Glassboys then regained the lead with 10 minutes. A shot came through a crowd of bodies and was palmed away by Stevenson, but it landed to Bowerman who was able to tap in unmarked.

Nantwich’s Adam Jones headed a corner just inches over the bar with timing running out.

Stourbridge could have finished the game off, when Grainger hit the underside of the bar and it bounced out and into the hands of Stevenson.

In the final minute of injury time Adam Jones squared the ball to Clayton, but he couldn’t divert the ball into the back of the net.
