Two lorries and a car crashed on the M6 in Cheshire, closing the motorway and sparking massive delays.

Police say the accident happened on the southbound carriageway between junctions 19 and 18.

One of the HGVs shed its load of canned drinks on M6, blocking two lanes.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue were also called to the accident as one of the lorries had reportedly overturned.

Paramedics treated two injured people at the scene but no one was trapped in the wreckage.

There was also a fuel spillage onto the carriageway.

Police at the scene warned that long delays are likely. The scene was cleared just after 4.30pm but motorists are advised to avoid the area.

There have been delays all afternoon since the incident happened at about midday today (January 28).
