Glenn Thomas, Crewe Concert Band

Crewe Concert Band has announced the appointment of Glenn Thomas as its new musical director.

And the band’s first concert under his leadership will be together with Decibellas Ladies Choir at Nantwich Civic Hall on March 15.

After graduating in 1988, Glenn pursued a career in teaching music in between a period of 18 years as a musician serving in the British Army, The Corps of Army Music.

Glenn is now a peripatetic music teacher on the Wirral, specializing in clarinet, saxophone, recorder and piano.

He also plays clarinet with the Wirral Symphonic Wind Band.

Glenn said: “This is an exciting opportunity.

“I am very pleased to be working with such a committed group of musicians who are all focussed on improving the band’s musical performance.”

Proceeds from the charity concert on March 15 will go to the Macmillan Support Group.

Tickets are available from the Civic Hall or Eileen Robertson.

Brian Dunning, the band’s chairman, added: “We are delighted we have obtained Glenn’s services.

“I am sure under his leadership the band will go from strength to strength.

“We have between 25 and 30 regular members but we are always pleased to welcome new players.

“In particular we have vacancies for Trumpet/Cornet, French Horn, Oboe, Bassoon, Baritone Saxophone, Percussion and Principal Trombone.”
