honours - parents protest over school funding - Edward Timpson, MP for Crewe and Nantwich, Minister for Children and Families

New figures show 2,390 new apprenticeships were started by people in Crewe and Nantwich between 2012 and 2014.

And more than 5,000 new apprenticeships have been created in area since 2010, statistics suggest.

Crewe & Nantwich MP Edward Timpson has championed the creation of more apprentice opportunities and welcomed the latest figures, released by the Government’s Apprenticeships Ambassador.

Across England more than 1.9 million apprenticeships have been started since 2010 – with the number of apprenticeships having more than doubled in this parliament.

In Crewe and Nantwich, the most popular apprenticeship subject area was business, administration and law, followed by health, public services and care.

In this area, between 2012-14, apprenticeships were created as follows:

Business, Administration and Law 870
Health, Public Services and Care 500
Retail and Commercial Enterprise 480
Engineering & Manufacturing Technology 280
Construction, Planning & Environment 80
Leisure, Travel and Tourism 70
Information & Communication Technology 60
Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Care 40
Education and Training 10

Mr Timpson said: “These figures are great news.

“More than 5,000 new apprenticeships since 2010 in such diverse areas means more young people in Crewe and Nantwich are getting the skills they’ll need for the future.

“And I’m pleased a future Conservative government would go even further, with a £1 billion commitment to deliver three million apprenticeships by 2020, and to end youth unemployment – already down by over two-thirds in Crewe and Nantwich.

“By making sure, as part of our long-term economic plan, we deliver the best schools and skills for young people, we’re ensuring the next generation have the skills and opportunities they’ll need to get a good job – so they can have a brighter, more secure future ahead of them.”
