joseph poster, crewe lyceum

Some musicals are so well known and loved, you question how a production company can meet the expectation of the audience, writes Claire Faulkner.

‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ is one of those shows.

Showing at Crewe Lyceum until March 8, this Bill Kenwright production presents an energetic and magical performance of one the best loved musicals of our time.

Opening night quite rightly belonged to Matt Brinkler, as ‘Joseph’.

Despite being the understudy for cast member Lloyd Daniels, you would never have guessed it.

He owned the role and gave a fantastic performance, the encore at the end of the show was a testament to how much the audience enjoyed and valued his performance.

Amelia Lily, known from The X Factor, gave a strong and clear performance as the ‘Narrator’.

Her beautiful voice complemented by the choir and musical arrangement.

My favourite scenes were those between ‘Jacob’ played by Henry Metcalf and ‘Joseph’.

Both actors gave a wonderful and emotional performance in ‘Any Dream Will Do.’

All of the cast members gave 100% to the performance, and members of the audience were dancing in the aisle’s at the end of the show.

If musicals are your thing, then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this production.

  1. Went to see this with Dining Divas on Wednesday evening and I was blown away. In fact, it was so good that I’m going again tonight, taking my two children with me.

    Not to be missed!
