Drivers face more disruption as essential work is to start on the busy A530 Middlewich Road near Nantwich.

Structural patching work will take place on the route between Crewe and Nantwich in preparation for surface treatment in the summer.

It is part of Cheshire East Council’s Highways’ Investment Programme.

Preparation work is taking place between Coppenhall Lane, Crewe roundabout and the A51 Nantwich bypass, at the Sainsbury’s roundabout.

The road will close between 7pm and 5am from today (March 16) to Friday March 20.

The work has been confined to evenings and night hours to minimise disruption but will re-open during the day.

Emergency vehicle access will be maintained to local homes and properties and to Leighton Hospital and pedestrian access to all premises will be maintained.

Traffic safety officers will be in place along the route to help motorists.

Traffic disruption will be unavoidable, says the council.

A diversion route will follow:

Coppenhall Lane, West Street, A5078 Dunwoody Way, Oak Street, Vernon Way, A532 Earle Street, A532 Macon Way, A534 Nantwich Road/Crewe Road, A51 Nantwich bypass.

Cllr David Topping, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for service commissioning, said: “This is vital work and we do ask that the public bear with us and we thank them in advance for their patience.

“As part of our policy to maximise the benefit of road closures, we will be looking to carry out other routine maintenance works where possible.”
