win at Corby - Phil Parkinson, Nantwich Town manager, against Stourbridge

Nantwich Town are urging fans to back the players and managers by using the hashtag #IAmNantwich as they enter a relegation dogfight, writes Richard Scott.

The Dabbers are hovering just one point above the drop zone after Saturday’s narrow defeat to Rushall Olympic.

And with other results from last night leaving Nantwich in real danger, this weekend’s clash with bottom club Belper Town is vital.

Manager Phil Parkinson has called for fans to back him and the team to help them through.

He said: “I am Nantwich through and through. I will be here almost every night of the week, putting the hours in.

“Not just with the first team, but with the community and the players, driving things forward with the youth teams.

“Because when Nantwich is one club and moving in the right direction, we’re a real force to be reckoned with.

“At some point the tide’s got to turn if we keep sticking to what we’re doing.

“I think we’re doing the right things here. We’ve got good players. I’ve got to believe in them and we will turn it around.”

The club is urging fans to bring friends and family along with them and enjoy free entrance for children with a paying adult to the Belper clash on Saturday (kick off 3pm).

Despite improved performances since Parkinson arrived, the team has just seven games remaining to secure their Evo-Stik Premier League status.

Parkinson admitted players were “down in the dumps” after the 1-0 defeat to Rushall Olympic.

“There’s no one in the dressing room having a laugh and a joke about getting beat; this means everything to them.

“They’ve given me everything since I’ve been here.

“I think it was one of those games, even though we had a lot of shots, neither team looked like they were really going to open the other team up and score a lot of goals.”

New signing Liam Shotton did impress on his debut.

“I thought he made a big difference,” Parkinson said.

“We did look more dangerous, especially when we had to be a bit more direct.

“When teams come and put everything behind the ball, it’s very difficult for any striker to get in, never mind someone who has just come joined.”

After letting three goals in with a makeshift defence last week, the manager moved to bring in a defender.

John Moran, who signed on loan from Crewe Alexandra, made his debut against Rushall and was named Man of the Match.

“I thought he was absolutely outstanding at the back,” Parkinson added.

“I’ve worked with John before he went to Crewe, so there was never any doubt in my mind he wouldn’t be successful.

“I’m sure [being here] will do him the world of good for his progression.”
