Yew Tree customers at 5th anniversary

A popular pub near Nantwich is celebrating its fifth birthday since new life was breathed into the historic building.

After years of neglect, the Yew Tree Inn, in Bunbury, was refurbished by renowned designers Lister Carter in the summer of 2010.

Now, under the stewardship of Jon and Lindsay Cox and John and Helen Langley, it has been turned into an award-winner.

The pub’s 5th birthday party, with live music from The Beardband and a cake from Baked in Bunbury, went on until the early hours.

“It’s nights like this that really make you feel part of the community,” said Jon.

“We’ve loved bringing this great pub back to life over the last five years and we look forward to being part of this community for years to come.”

Twice the Yew Tree has been named “Cheshire Pub of the Year” and “Cheshire Dining Pub of the Year” award from The Good Pub Guide.

It has also featured in The Michelin and Sawday’s Pubs & Inns Guides since opening as well “Cheshire Life Pub of the Year” in 2014.

The pub represented the north by being shortlisted for “Best Pub” in The GQ Magazine Food & Drink Awards.

The family-run freehouse offers seasonal menus using local produce, including beef from award winning Oaklands Red Poll herd over the lane.

Other produce includes vegetables and meat produced locally, more from Burrows Butchers in the village.

It also offers 15 draught beers on tap, boutique gins, single malts and eclectic wines.

Pub manager Myles said: “Being a freehouse really breathes life into the bar – we love searching high and low for the best new beers, spirits and wines – our regulars really embrace it too which makes it all worthwhile.”

Staff have also supported local initiatives such as The Bunbury Playground Appeal. It raised more than £5,000 through a range of events.

Monthly events at the pub include The Bunbury Farmers’ Market & Craft Fair, held on the third Sunday of each month and the live music night, “Thank Yew It’s Friday!”, held on the last Friday of the month.
