Nantwich Family Films @4 award Geoff Etherton

Nantwich Family Films @4 has been shortlisted for a national award for the second year running.

In 2014, the community cinema project received a commendation in the ‘Best New Society’ category.

Now Nantwich Family Films @4, which screens films on a monthly basis at Nantwich Methodist Church on Hospital Street, has been chosen as one of the contenders for ‘Community Award’ at the National Film Society Awards in October.

The community award is for film societies who have had an impact on their local community.

Geoff Etherton, the project’s co-ordinator and children, families & young peoples worker at Nantwich Methodist Church, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the second year for an award.

“This is in recognition of the impact we’ve been able to have in providing an affordable yet quality community cinema project to families in the town, and how we have been able to develop over the last year and build some good relationships in the community.”

As well as providing a cinema, the project has welcomed film and media students on placement.

One of the students worked with year 5 pupils at Wyche Primary School in Nantwich to create their own short films about anti-bullying, which were shown on the big screen in July.

The project has been running since January 2014, and has screened films including The Lego Movie, Wreck it Ralph, and Frozen.

Family tickets are £10, and films are screened on the third Sunday of each month at 4pm.

The film awards take place on Saturday October 3, when the project will find out the result of the award.

The next film screening will be on Sunday September 20 at 4pm. The movie shown will be ‘Home’.

All screenings take place at Nantwich Methodist Church, and more details can be found on their Facebook page – Facebook.com/nantwichfamilyfilmsat4
