Chris Parkes

Nantwich Town goalkeeping coach Chris Parkes is looking forward to the FA Trophy tie against Stockport County, writes Liam Roe.

The Dabbers will travel to Edgeley Park for the Third Qualifying Round of the competition, following a 5-1 victory over King’s Lynn at the Weaver Stadium in the last round.

As well as Parkes relishing the chance of playing against a team a league higher, he believes the squad will be looking to make their mark and prove a point too.

He said: “We’re most definitely looking forward to that game – it’s a massive game not just for the club but for the boys as well.

“They’ll all be up for that sort of game at a former and recent league stadium.

“So we’re really looking forward to that and I think it will be a really good day out for everyone and hopefully we come back with the right result.”

Preparations for the game didn’t go to plan last Saturday when Nantwich suffered a 4-2 defeat at Hurst Cross against Ashton United on a pitch hampered by the weather.

Despite the loss, Parkes says the side will be going about their business as usual.

“We will prepare as thoroughly as we normally do for every game. We’ll certainly keep our preparation at a high level like we do every week,” Parkes stated.

“I don’t think there was a great deal we did wrong against Ashton, it’s not as if we can pick out particular parts of our game.”

The Dabbers travelling support has been constant this season – and it was no different on Saturday despite the scoreline.

“I thought the supporters were great at Ashton,” Parkes explained.

“And when the lads needed a lift they were there with the songs and the drums and it’s always nice for them and it gives them a lift.”

There will be a coach, organised by the club, taking supporters to and from the game on Saturday.

“I hope we fill the coach,” added Parkes.

“Plus you will have the faithful guys who stand behind the goal every week and sing their hearts out for the boys in all weathers and all scorelines.”
