Leighton Hospital scanner appeal Edward Timpson, London Marathon

MP Edward Timpson has donated nearly £4,000 to the Leighton Hospital MRI scanner appeal after tackling the London Marathon.

The Crewe & Nantwich MP completed the 26-mile marathon to raise funds for the Mid Cheshire Hospitals appeal, setting a personal target of £3,000.

And he surpassed this, raising an impressive total of £3690.56.

It was the Conservative MP’s 11th London Marathon, which he completed in three hours, 56 minutes and 42 seconds.

He said: “I ran for the MRI Scanner Appeal for Leighton Hospital as their current scanner is in constant use, so I’m helping them raise £1 million for an extra one.

“My three children were all born in Leighton Hospital, so I have a strong attachment to it and I’ve campaigned successfully for major funding for them in the past.

“I want to keep the effort going!

“As MP for Crewe and Nantwich, I’m very aware of the need for the new scanner to help the community.

“It’s already at maximum capacity, and a new scanner is desperately needed to meet local demand.”

The MP has been a long-standing supporter of Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity.

He was previously a Patron for the One in Eleven Appeal for the re-development of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Leighton Hospital.

Laura Riddle, charity manager, said: “This is an amazing amount to be raised by one person.

“We are eternally grateful to Mr Timpson for his commitment to raise money for our new MRI scanner and his endeavours to raise awareness of our appeal.

“Without individuals and community groups taking up the commitment to raise funds, we would not have achieved so much already.”

Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity launched its £1 million MRI Scanner Appeal to provide an additional MRI scanner at Leighton Hospital in March last year.
