Animikii - Lowry theatre show in cheshire

A psychological thriller developed by The Lowry theatre is heading to two rural venues in South Cheshire.

Animikii Theatre’s founders Henry McGrath and Adam Davies will stage “Origins” at the Barbour Institute, Tattenhall, and The Goodwill Hall, in Faddiley.

The show retraces the steps of “the world’s first murderer” based on the story of Cain and Abel.

After murdering his brother, in cold blood, we meet Cain living out his life exiled from his homeland.

Afflicted by his memories and haunted by figures from the past, Cain must now retrace his steps back to Eden in pursuit of answers.

The show features Manchester-based actor, and co-artistic director of Animikii Theatre, Adam Davies as Abel alongside London-based actor, Charles Sandford as Cain.

Davies said: “We knew we wanted to tackle themes of beginnings and brotherhood, as we
couldn’t escape that we were two men on stage.

“We used Cain & Abel as a template to research more narrative possibilities.

“The story of Cain & Abel from the Bible stuck with us and we knew it would allow us to make a show that would be well-known and integral when touring to rural audiences.

“We knew touring physical theatre with a strong narrative and building a dynamic world around Cain and his journey through exile with the label of ‘the first murderer’ would be exciting.”

Animikii Theatre began “Origins” in 2015 and has completed detailed training and rehearsals with producing partners The Lowry, Cheshire Rural Touring Arts, Spot On
Lancashire, and Arts Council England.

The shows form part of Cheshire Rural Touring Arts’ (CRTA) spring season of touring, taking professional arts events to rural venues and libraries across the county.

“Origins” will visit The Barbour Institute in Tattenhall on Friday 20 May at 7.30pm
followed by The Goodwill Hall in Faddiley on Saturday 21 May at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the show, suitable for 16 and over, are available directly from venues and can be booked by calling 01829 771374 or 01829 771649 for the Tattenhall show or 01270 524441 for Faddiley.
