Leo Bailey-Yang, piano prodigy at Nantwich

Piano prodigy Leo Bailey-Yang will launch a new series of concerts at St Mary’s Church in Nantwich.

The lunchtime concerts will restart on Thursday July 21 at 12.30pm with eight-year-old Leo, who appeared on last year’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ TV show.

Leo is a pupil at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester.

After a year learning from distinguished piano teacher Simon Bottomley, he became the world’s fastest and youngest person to pass grade 8 with one of the highest distinction marks – 144 out of 150.

Since then he has gained his ATCL diploma (from Trinity College London), the youngest person in the world to achieve this distinction.

He has won prizes and medals internationally, including at the 23rd Poland International Chopin Festival, and in May was invited to play at New York’s Carnegie Hall on America’s Memorial Day.

His 50-minute programme at Nantwich will include works by Haydn, Chopin, Ravel and Moszkowski.

Admission to this and other concerts in the series is free but there will be a retiring collection.

This will be a chance to hear the church’s recently acquired ‘Schimmel’ grand piano played by an exceptional talent.
