A meat company has launched a recruitment drive as it prepares to open a new shop after moving to South Cheshire.

Kingswood Poultry, which specialises in preparing fresh chicken for the wholesale market, relocated from Penkridge to Orion Way after receiving support from South Cheshire Chamber.

Now, with a packed order book, the company is set to expand into selling fresh meat and poultry direct to the public from a purpose-built outlet on site.

Opening tomorrow (July 14), Kingswood of Cheshire will offer beef, pork, lamb and chicken at prices substantially lower than big name supermarkets.

Managing director Lee Parsons, formerly of Willaston, said: “The move to Crewe has been a very positive one.

“Geographically, it allows us to show off our modern processing facilities to customers from further afield.

“One came over from the Lake District the other day and put in an immediate order.

“The site also gives us the scope to expand and fulfil our long-held ambition of opening a shop selling meat and poultry at great prices because we don’t have the distribution costs.

“Our mantra is you don’t need to pay over the odds for quality.”

The family business, which Lee runs with his dad Stan, is now actively recruiting.

Its workforce has swelled to 20 and six new jobs are in the pipeline as the shop becomes established.

Manager of the new shop is John Rowlands, a butcher of 30 years.

John, from Chester, will prepare the cuts and other meat products, such as burgers and speciality sausages, on site.

He said: “The shop is a place where you can call in and buy products to fill your freezer or just something for dinner, like stuffed Chicken Royale or marinated dishes, ready for the oven.

“The guarantee is 100% meat, the best quality and no additives.”

The Kingswood speciality sausage will make its debut at a barbecue at the company base on Orion Business Park on Saturday July 16.
