A South Cheshire cyclist has died after he ploughed into a tree near Mow Cop, police said.

The 36-year-old victim, from Crewe, was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision on Mow Lane.

Officers who attended the scene found the cyclist had come off the road and collided with a tree at around 6.15pm last night (September 27).

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and formal identification is expected to take place later today, said Cheshire Police.

Investigations are currently on-going to determine the cause of the collision, although officers are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 729 of 27/9/2016.

    That stretch of road has been in an appauling state of repair for years. The potholed steep descent is very dangerous for road users, cyclists in particular. Unfortunately, the inevitable has happened.
