MRI scanner appeal Mid Cheshire Hospitals Trust

Leighton Hospital bosses have unveiled a new MRI scanner after a two-year fundraising campaign.

The appeal was launched by Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity in March 2014 and has raised more than £960,000.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity and the Trust were joined by charity patron Pete Waterman for the official launch of the new scanner at the hospital.

High levels of demand and an increasing shortfall in capacity sparked the campaign.

Thousands of people in Crewe and Nantwich, including residents, businesses, schools, groups and other associations, raised vital funds.

Fayrefield Foods raised more than £50,000 through their cycle ride event.

Nantwich Cycling Group, who took on the challenge and cycled from Nantwich to London, raised in excess of £50,000.

MP for Crewe and Nantwich Edward Timpson raised £3,690 by running the 2015 London Marathon.

Local Estate Agent Your Move Andrew Nicholson donated more than £2,000, and Sandbach Ladies Choir donated £720.

Royal Bank of Scotland Congleton and Sandbach branches supported the appeal for a year and raised over £2,000 between them and Alextra Accountants who also raised over £3,500 through completing a sponsored skydive.

The event was attended by representatives from Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, including chief executive Tracy Bullock and chairman Dennis Dunn MBE.

Mr Dunn said: “I am delighted the appeal has been such a success and the funding of the second MRI scanner will support Mid Cheshire Hospitals in its aim to deliver first class healthcare to our local community.”

Charity patron Pete Waterman added: “It was an honour to launch the new MRI scanner at Leighton Hospital after a two and a half year appeal.

“I am passionate about the NHS and full of admiration for the fantastic support we have received from the public for this appeal.”

Charity manager Laura Riddle added: “We are absolutely thrilled to have raised such a staggering amount through the MRI Scanner Appeal.

“We could not have done this without the amazing support shown by the local community and I would like to thank everyone who supported and donated to the appeal.

“It was a great event, and an excellent finale to highly successful appeal.”
