Nantwich Museum is to stage an interactive evening class aimed at examining local events during the First Civil War in Cheshire.

It has been arranged by Nantwich Museum’s Civil War Centre.

Called “A County Destroyed by the Civil War – the Civil War in Cheshire”, the ten-week course will analyse the background to the conflict and identify key characters.

The strategic significance of Cheshire will be examined and the means by which the allegiances of Chester and Nantwich were established.

An important element will be a chance to examine documents to map the course of the war.

Events leading to the siege and relief of Nantwich will be analysed which were followed by the siege of Chester and defeat of Charles I.

The consequences of war for local people and their property will also be considered.

Dr Keith Lawrence, Chairman of the Nantwich Museum Civil War Centre and a well-known local speaker, will run the course in the Joseph Heler Room on Thursday October 5.

The cost is £100 which includes course materials and refreshments.

Keith Lawrence said: “Just bring an enquiring mind and the story will be built up to provide an understanding of the Civil War in Cheshire.”
