Star athlete Steve Cram will be guest speaker at the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce annual business dinner.

The event has returned to the Chamber calendar and organisers are delighted to announce the appearance of the record-breaking runner at Crewe Hall on June 29.

Chamber Events co-ordinator Daryl Williams said: “Steve Cram is one of the world’s most successful middle distance runners of all time.

“Since retiring he has become one of the BBC’s most respected presenters and commentators and is busy on the corporate scene as a motivational speaker.

“He is highly sought-after as an Olympian after dinner speaker and it is a real scoop for the Chamber to introduce him to the local business community at Crewe Hall.

“It means the Chamber Annual Dinner can return in style after a gap of three years and our aim is to make it a truly memorable night, as glittering and prestigious as our Annual Business Awards.”

The dinner will take place in the hotel’s Long Gallery and will include a drinks reception and three-course meal.

Supporting the night as main sponsors are South Cheshire Chamber members, Handelsbanken and Assurant.

Other local companies and Chamber members involved are Rob Sproston Sports, Helen Williams Photography, Code Audio Visual Ltd and Pure PR.

Daryl added: “Since retiring from athletics, Steve has become a successful TV presenter and host at major sporting events such as the 2016 Olympics.

“He has worked with blue chip clients such as Norwich Union, HSBC and Hewlett Packard and is excellent at relating sporting success to commercial success, and in particular developing teams working towards a shared goal.

“It will be fantastic to welcome him to Crewe Hall.”

Cram, nicknamed ‘The Jarrow Arrow’ after his hometown, was the first man to run 1500m in under three minutes 30 seconds and set three world records in the summer of 1985.

The event is open to everyone in the South Cheshire business community and limited sponsorship opportunities still remain.
