Hundreds of drivers in Nantwich are being warned as a main road in and out of town will be closed for five days.
The B5074 London Road will be closed between June 12 and June 16 for major resurfacing works.
Diversions will be in place with the closure from the Hospital Street roundabout up beyond the level crossing to the lights near Cheerbrook where it becomes Newcastle Road.
Cheshire East highways say the closure is necessary to allow for “carriageway surface treatment”.
But with the closure in place from 8am to 5pm, it will impact on hundreds of commuters and school journeys.
Motorists are being warned to allow extra time at peak periods, with likely delays along Peter de Stapleigh Way and Audlem Road, as well as on the bypass between Cheerbrook, Peacock and Alvaston roundabouts.
Councillor David Brown, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said: “The planned resurfacing work on London Road, Nantwich, is scheduled to take place from 9:30am to 3:30pm from Monday, June 14 to Friday, June 18.
“Roadworks will operate from the Elwood Way junction to the Hospital Street roundabout and, where possible, the council will maintain access for residents and businesses at all times.
“The council will also use ‘business open as usual’ signs. They will be displayed in appropriate places on approaches to the road closure.
“This is part of a borough-wide programme of scheduled works. Every effort will be made to ensure that the work on London Road is carried out at the stated time.
“However, all works are weather dependent.”
