Parkinson 2 - Watts

Financial advisers at Nantwich company Watts Mortgage have scaled new heights in their mission to support local charities.

Team members from Watts Mortgage and Wealth Management, on Beam Heath business park, braved gale-force winds and heavy rain to complete a climb up Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England.

With sponsorship from family and friends, they raised £800 for the Crewe and Nantwich branch of Parkinson’s UK.

Now a £1,000 cheque is to be presented after Watts added more money to the pot.

The craggy Cumbrian landmark, soaring 3,209ft, was conquered in five hours by the group led by the company’s managing director Andrew Watts and director Barry Jones who specialises in life and critical illness policies.

Barry said: “We met a local representative of the charity at a Redshift radio networking event and were struck by the need to support the branch and raise awareness the tremendous work it does here in South Cheshire.

“So often people with progressive conditions are written off by insurance companies but we have been pleased to work with local sufferers of Parkinson’s Disease and find them the cover they need to safeguard their financial future.

“Climbing Scafell in atrocious weather was a challenge but we pressed ahead with them in mind and looked after each other on the ascent.”

Days later, the team, still a little tired and sore, supported a Parkinson’s awareness afternoon at Nantwich Civic hall.

The company is also a corporate fundraising partner with St Luke’s Hospice, raising money with dress down Fridays and collections.

Barry, from Wistaston, added: “We work closely with local parents, ensuring they have the cover they need to care for their families should they fall ill.

“Now we are in the planning stages of a major initiative to help fundraising for Crewe and Nantwich schools, which again is part of giving back to the community where we work and live.”
