Mike Walsh, London to Amsterdam in aid of Prostate Cancer UK

South Cheshire businessman Mike Walsh cycled from London to Amsterdam for a second time, all in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Mike, sales director of Eze Talk in Crewe, joined hundreds of other riders for the 145-mile bike ride, which they completed in just two days.

He was joined by team-mates Ian Dutton, Chris Brewerton, Akin Fashola and James Else for the event which set off from the Olympic Park in London, home of the 2012 Olympic Games.

The team rode 84 miles on the first day to Harwich where the ferry was boarded for the next leg.

The second day involved a cycle from the Hook of Amsterdam, along the coast and through the Dutch countryside finally finishing at the Amsterdam Arena, home of Ajax FC.

It is the second year running that Mike has undertaken this challenge.

Mike helped raise close to £500,000 and individually he raised more than £1,000 with donations from businesses and friends.

He said: “This was another fantastic event with an incredible atmosphere.

“Everyone really motivated each other to keep going, even when the legs were really giving up!

“All the pain was worth it.”

James Beeby, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We’re delighted Mike decided to join the fight against prostate cancer and raised vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

“Ignoring prostate cancer will not beat it, and the money raised by our fantastic riders will fund ground-breaking research to help fight the disease.

“We are proud to be Official Charity Partner of the EFL, and clubs from across the football family have consistently shown a brilliant demonstration of what we call Men United: people joining one team to fight a common opposition – prostate cancer.

“One man every hour dies from prostate cancer. It’s the most common cancer in men.

“But we want to make it a disease that the next generation of men do not fear. We thank Mike and all the riders for joining the fight.”
