Will Jaaskelainen, signed on month loan with Nantwich Town from Crewe Alexandra

Nantwich Town have signed Crewe Alexandra keeper Will Jaaskelainen on a month’s loan.

The deal, confirmed by both clubs today, sees the highly-rated stopper join the Weaver Stadium outfit in time for this weekend’s FA Cup tie.

Jaaskelainen will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s Fourth Qualifying Round tie against Kettering Town.

Dave Cooke had move into the loan market with current keepers Fabian Spiess and Kristian Burzynski both out through injury.

The youngster moved to Crewe Alex in the summer from Bolton Wanderers having been released from the Championship club.

He comes from a good background as the son of former Finland international keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Meanwhile, Nantwich Town youth team are in action tomorrow night (October 11) when they take on Tranmere Rovers in the FA Youth Cup Second Qualifying Round at the Weaver (kick off 7.45pm).

The youngsters have beaten Radcliffe Borough (5-2) and Southport FC (3-1) so far in the competition and have been rewarded with a home tie against Tranmere and manager Lyndon Wain knows his side face a tough challenge.

He said: “Both myself and the boys are really looking forward to putting ourselves up against what will be a very strong Tranmere side.

“We are under no illusions that it’s going to be another step up from Southport, but that’s what this competition is all about.

“The message to the boys before the game will be to show the same application, enjoy representing our club and leave everything on the pitch.”

The First Qualifying Round saw the Dabbers cause an upset as they overcame a strong Southport side having come from a goal down to win 3-1 thanks to strikes from Sam Croft and Jake Davies (x2), a result Wain was delighted with.

“I thought we were excellent against Southport. Saying that I believe there’s more to come from this group, we finished well after a slow start but we must learn from that.

“I was really thrilled that we finished the game with four under 17’s on the pitch, the future at Nantwich is brighter now.”

A crowd of 120 came and witnessed the victory at the Weaver and Wain has called out for Dabbers fans to come and show their support for the lads this Wednesday.

“All the boys are local and I know how having a bigger crowd motivates them, they really want to give another big performance, win or lose they have created a feel good factor.

“I’d love to see as many Dabbers cheering the boys on under the Weaver lights next week.”
